This past weekend I was fortunate enough to spend both Saturday and Sunday on the water with some good folks. Saturday was spent on a Pennsylvania Limestone stream and Sunday on New Jersey limestone stream.
Saturday I fished with fellow RRTU member John a.k.a the golden beetle and we found the fish to be pretty active. We fished nymphs in the morning and dry's in the afternoon. There was a decent BWO hatch later in the day that brought a few fish to the surface which made for some exciting dry fly fishing and ended the day with a some hot wings and a cold lager at a local bar.
Sunday I met up with Johnny Utah of www.utahsflycorner.com on a local creek. We fished dry's all day casting to both rising trout and blind casting to likely spots. I eventually caught and landed one but I missed my first 4 fish! I'm by no means a great fly fisherman but I can usually bring a few to hand but after missing my first four fish I knew something was wrong. So after careful thought and consideration I decided not to make my two piece bamboo rod a 4 piece and inspected my fly. Upon closer examination I noticed a broken hook point. UHG! Sunday was a great day for many reasons but for me the highlight of the day was being able to watch my buddy Sal hook and land his first two dry fly fish. Way to go buddy! He left the creek with a big smile and I learned a life lesson.

Nice report! Glad to hear someone is getting out. You've taught me a lesson as well. I make the same mistake and think it's me...usually is. But check your fly!

Lessons will be learned. For me it's almost every time on the stream.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Thanks.
DeleteIt's when I stop learning I don't want to play anymore.
Was definitely a good weekend to be out. We found them rising in PA on Sunday all afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI'll be out that way on Sunday.

Two days on the water with friends and catching some fish on dries to top it off...that's pretty hard to beat right there.
ReplyDeleteRight on Brother!
